What began as an idea among three NOC alumni has now grown into an award-winning venture at the National Youth Entrepreneurship Awards (NYEA). At the 2025 NYEA, Eugene Chia, the Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder of Ecovolt Technologies, represented our team and clinched the Gold Award in the Open Category following his live pitch the week before. The pitch was judged by Evangeline Leong of Kobe, John T. of Tin Men Capital and Poi Shan Lai, Deputy Director of NLB. Our vision took the stage through Eugene, whose presentation served as a testament to both his entrepreneurial drive and the impact Ecovolt Technologies has made.

NYEA started in 2016 and takes place annually to reach and celebrate the achievements of entrepreneurs on a national level in Singapore. The awards spotlight youths aged 17 to 35 who have displayed entrepreneurial qualities and recognise their contributions to the Singapore startup ecosystem. Through this platform, Ecovolt Technologies was brought into the forefront, with our mission and impact gaining greater recognition.

Ecovolt Technologies was founded by three passionate innovators from NUS N-House: Raphael Chew, Glenn Quah, and Eugene Chia. Our team has a shared mission of building AI-driven solutions that help create a positive environmental impact by helping buildings move towards a greener future. Our team is currently incubating at both the BLOCK71 Social Impact Hub and The Hangar by NUS Enterprise, where we work together to continuously innovate, test new ideas, and scale solutions aimed at contributing to a more sustainable future.

To date, Ecovolt has deployed more than 1,500 smart plugs across industrial, mixed-use, and commercial facilities, helping buildings monitor, manage, and optimise their energy use in real time, solving the problem of idle energy, which accounts for more than 20% of the electricity reflected in typical utility bills.

Our plug loads, which are connected to local Wi-Fi, track and monitor energy usage of appliances throughout the building by collecting baseline data on energy use and carbon emissions. This data is then sent to a cloud-based digital platform, where data is translated into easy-to-visualise graphs and easy-to-read statistics on our Ecovolt Dashboard (EcoMonitor Pro). With Ecovolt, users are able to better manage their energy usage, optimising their energy usage to save electricity and decrease their carbon footprint.

Ecovolt has achieved tangible results, as we have observed a 8-20% energy reduction across client sites and a 10% increase in energy savings. By saving energy, Ecovolt has prevented the release of 100 tonnes of CO2 this year. The convenience of EcoMonitor Pro has also helped to reduce the workforce required for facilities management, with a 70% reduction in man-hours required for Facility Management teams.

On top of this, the Ecovolt dashboard is able to automatically identify unusual power activity for the drivers plugged into our sockets. This thus enables relevant authorities to conduct preventative maintenance, repairing instead of replacing faulty devices. These benefits highlight how Ecovolt can support organisations in managing energy more effectively.
